Social Media Affects on Teen Emotional Life
According to a study conducted by the University of Pennsylvania, overuse of social media can contribute to teen depression, loneliness, and anxiety. Social media can be an educational tool or it can breed toxicity. Teens need parental support, guidance, and wisdom regarding social media.
Another study conducted by Mayo Clinic found that social media use can negatively affect teens by distracting them, disrupting their sleep, and exposing them to bullying, rumor spreading, unrealistic views of the other people’s lives and peer pressure. The risks might be related to how much social media teens use. A 2019 study of more than 6,500 12-15 year olds in the U.S. found that those who spent more than three hours a day using social media might be at heightened risk for mental health problems.
